A 17,000sqft transformation and refurbishment to an existing office building in Letchworth Garden city.

The new building serves as the UK headquarters for Northland Controls and includes open plan, flexible office space, a gym, product assembly workshop, cafeteria and games room, a dedicated meeting room wing and flexible, collaborative working zones and break-out space.

A boutique development of 10 houses, by MAB architects in conjunction with local builder and landowner Cranston Property Services.

On hearing that development was planned in the area, Mark Barnard with Simone & Anthony Cranston, wanted to not only help the local community, who were being priced out of their locality, but also raise the standard of housebuilding in the area. Their scheme comprises 10 contemporary houses, designed to incorporate Passiv Haus principles to make the buildings ecologically sound, but also keep homeowner’s running costs down. The property sizes and prices mean that they are affordable to locals, therefore preserving this strong and vibrant village community.

This grand, detached villa built at the turn of the 20th Century sits in the heart of the Meads Conservation area and is now a specialist dementia, residential care home accommodating 16 full-time residents.

However the home is in need of updating with the priority being to improve accessibility to the rooms and the garden. Also, funding cuts mean that the home needs to accommodate more residents to secure the long-term viability of the business. All this needs to be achieved while remaining respectful of this historic conservation area.

MAB architects consulted extensively with the Eastbourne and Lewes conservation team throughout the process, with both the Eastbourne Planning committee and Conservation advisory board who deemed the design to be ‘exemplary’.

A state-of-the-art winery located in the South Downs valley, tipped to become one of the biggest single estate wineries in Europe, with a plan to produce 1 million bottles of Sussex Sparkling wine per year.
